10tipsforwinterworkplacehealth.jpgDo you find yourself bracing for an unhealthy winter? Don’t! Instead, get ready for a healthy and productive winter. Check out our 10 tips for winter workplace health below.

  1. Eat more veggies. A healthy diet is imperative for maintaining health, especially through the winter. Vegetables are the cornerstone of a healthy diet, but are often neglected during the winter months. It can be difficult to find fresh produce during the winter depending on where you live. Additionally, many people gravitate towards comfort foods and often leave vegetables behind because of the colder weather. Add more vegetables to your diet to get the nutrition you need this winter!
  2. Take supplements. It can be difficult to avoid allergens or harmful bugs during the winter no matter how healthy and clean your diet is. Give your diet a boost with supplements and help your body stay strong. A supplement to consider is one with ChromeMate® from InterHealth. ChromeMate® is a niacin-bound form of chromium, created to be highly bioavailable to support healthy blood sugar levels.
  3. Keep your workspace clean. Individual desks can be one of the dirtiest items in an office. Keep your space tidy as much as possible and clean with a disinfecting cleaning product each day before you leave. Don’t forget to clean items such as your keyboard, mouse, drawer handles, and tablet screens.
  4. Wash your hands frequently. In addition to keeping your space clean, it’s important to wash your hands often throughout the workday. While you may already wash your hands after visiting the restroom, you should also wash after eating, meetings, and any other time where you may have encountered public spaces.
  5. Take meal breaks away from your desk. To help keep your space clean and give your brain and body a break, take your meals away from your desk. Getting away from your desk will allow you to enjoy your meal, eat slower, and take a break from the grind. This is a healthy choice for your body and your brain.
  6. Get up and move around. It is suggested that people who sit at desks while working get up and move throughout the day. This can be as simple as a walk around the block, down the hall and back or walking to your coworker instead of calling or emailing. Try to get up from your desk at least once an hour.
  7. Avoid sugary office treats. The workplace can be a dumping ground for sugary sweets and unhealthy snacks. While sometimes brought with good intention, these can be trouble for a healthy diet and overall health. Avoid sugary treats as much as possible during the winter, and especially at work where it is easier to indulge.
  8. Frequent the water cooler. That is, refill your water glass or water bottle frequently throughout the day! Hydration is key for winter health, especially in drier climates. Just because you are not feeling the heat of the summer doesn’t mean that you should reduce your water intake. Drink up!
  9. Stretch. Stress in the workplace can be a main source for health troubles. Stretching is a simple and effective way to combat stress. It not only relieves tension felt from sitting or standing for long periods but it calms the mind. While you are taking a break away from your desk, take a minute to stretch areas of your body that feel tight.
  10. Take a vacation. Winter is a popular time of year for vacations, and for good reason. Vacations allow you to push the ‘reset’ button, getting away from the daily routine. Your winter vacation doesn’t have to be very long to be effective. Plan a long weekend getaway this winter for a healthy boost to your body and mind.
Staying healthy all winter long doesn’t have to be out of reach. Implementing even a handful of our tips above will get you going on the right path.
