The holidays are focused on food, desserts, and overindulging. There are a lot of tempting choices when it comes to holiday dinners, but resist temptation and focus on being thankful for your health. Make conscious choices to nurture your body this holiday season, because your health is something to be thankful for. Here are 3 ways to help you have a happy, healthy holiday season.

Prepare for dinner.

  • Eat a snack before going to dinner. When we reach a point of extreme hunger, we are all more likely to overindulge. To avoid these intense hunger pangs, eat a small, satiating snack before you go to dinner. If you are traveling over the holidays and aren’t able to prepare yourself snacks, bring something of your own too much on. Create a trail mix with nuts, seeds, and dried fruits. It will help curb your hunger throughout the day, so you don’t overeat at dinner.
  • Bring a dish to share. This is a good way to ensure that you will be able to eat something healthy at the dinner table. Bringing a large portion of roasted vegetables or a healthy dessert option will be good for you and everyone else! It may even motivate others to be mindful of their consumption at dinner.

Make good choices at dinner.

  • The dinner table is where you will need to implement your will power. It is hard to resist the carb loaded, unhealthy dishes when they are being passed around the table. Think about your health and how hard you have been working to reach your weight loss and health goals. That can be helpful motivation
  • Eat a lot of vegetables and protein. Fill yourself up with healthy choices, so you will be less likely to overeat on heavy carbohydrate choices.
  • Avoid bread completely, specifically white bread and buns. These simple carbohydrates will make you crave more simple carbohydrates. They don’t have much nutrient value and will make you feel sluggish in the long run.
  • Stay hydrated. Sip water during the day and during to dinner. Doing so will help you digest your food properly and help you avoid unhealthy cravings.

Be smart about dessert.

  • Restricting yourself from dessert, may not be the best approach. Often, when we restrict our diet too much, we are more apt to overeat later. Avoid this by implementing portion control at the dessert table.
  • Choose the healthiest option at the dessert table. For example, if there are chocolate strawberries, choose them. If there are gluten free options, like black bean brownies, eat that. Making smart choices about dessert will help you feel energized and not over stuffed.
  • Don’t go back for seconds. Treat yourself to one dessert and then be done! It is a satisfying way to end the meal.

Hopefully with these helpful eating tips, you will have a healthy holiday dinner. For extra support on your weight loss journey, implement a supplement that includes Meratrim® from BuyInterhealth. Learn more about Meratrim® and supplements that contain it.
