The idea of waking up earlier in the morning may not sound especially appealing. However, if you consider all the benefits of a morning workout, you may be interested in modifying your morning schedule. Morning exercise can kickstart your morning and keep you going strong all day. Here are 5 motivating reasons to exercise in the morning.

  1. Boosts Your Metabolism. We already know that a workout boosts your metabolic rate, but the earlier you workout, the longer the effects of your exercise will continue. You’ll ultimately burn more calories throughout the day if you exercise in the morning.

  2. Improves Your Mood. Not only does a workout increase your metabolism, it also naturally releases endorphins that improve your mood. After a morning workout, you’ll be more than prepared to handle the stressors of the coming day.

  3. Less Distractions. Trying to fit in exercise after work can be a challenge. Exercise is typically the first thing to get the boot when there are so many other things to do. In the morning, there are not nearly as many distractions. Once you’re in a routine, early exercise will be something you look forward to, and you will never have to try to fit a workout in later in the afternoon.

  4. No Midday Crash. We’re all aware of the notorious afternoon slump. Do you find yourself fatigued or tired, reaching for a cup of coffee around 2 pm daily? That midday crash gets the best of most people. With morning exercise, that crash can be avoided! That boost in your metabolism will help keep you going strong all day.

  5. Helps You Make Healthier Choices All Day. People who workout in the morning are more likely to make healthier choices all day. That release of endorphins from their morning exercise puts them in a healthy mindset for the day to come. You’ll feel good, and when you feel good, you are more likely to refuel with healthy choices.

Working out in the morning can be a refreshing way to start the day. You’ll notice an improvement in your overall health, mood, productivity, and you’ll make healthier choices throughout the day. If you’re not much of a morning person, make it easy on yourself! Start by waking up with a short 20-minute workout and increase your time once that becomes an easy routine.
