It’s the night of your holiday party, and you find yourself surrounded by delicious candies and treats that aren’t normally in your reach. Snickers, Kit Kats, Tootsie Rolls, all of your favorites! Go ahead take a bite or two or three, but how much will it take to burn off those delicious treats? You may be surprised to find how much physical exercise it will take to shed those extra calories from your yummy holiday treats!

How Long it Takes to Burn Off Snack-Sized Treats

Snack-sized candy bars are the perfect treat to have on hand for your party guests, but how many calories are really in them? There are between 60-100 calories in a single snack-sized candy bar, and it takes quite a while to burn that many calories off. If you do decide to try a few treats here are a few exercises you can do to burn them off:

  1. Nine minutes on the elliptical will burn off 80 calories, about one Milky Way
  2. To burn off Peanut M&M’s, about 90 calories you’ll need to hike for 13 minutes
  3. Jog for seven minutes to burn off a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup
  4. 15 minutes of dancing will burn off a Hershey’s milk chocolate bar
  5. Zumba for 10 minutes to burn off a Baby Ruth, about 85 calories

It’s okay to try a few treats but make sure you balance out your night of delicious treats with some exercise the next day. Life is all about balance and moderation!

Moderation is Key

As with any occasion, there are large amounts of deliciously unhealthy foods to choose from, and it is okay to indulge a little, but make sure to keep your health goals in mind. If you are on a weightloss program, training for an athletic event, or watching what you eat it’s important to remind yourself that moderation and a healthy balance is key. When you're dishing up your plate or grabbing a handful of treats ask yourself, do I need all of this? Or, how much of this would I eat on a normal day? Make your adjustments accordingly.

So, as you take on the holiday season keep in mind that it may take more than just a few squats to burn off your holiday treats.
