Exercising and Eating Right On Your Winter Vacation.jpgWhen people go on a winter vacation, many of them think it is perfectly okay to take a vacation from healthy eating and exercise habits, too. The truth is that vacationing is one of the most important times to make sure you stick to your regular eating and exercise routine. If you don't, you are more likely to come back from vacation and not pick them back up. Fortunately, sticking to your normal healthy lifestyle while on vacation doesn't have to be as daunting as many people make it out to be. Here is a quick look at several tips you can follow to keep your diet and exercise in check while on vacation.

Don’t Be Too Hard On Yourself

First and foremost, if you relax and indulge, whether it be eating an extra piece of pie or skipping out on a day's worth of exercise, it is important not to beat yourself up. A vacation is a time to relax, so if you veer from your normal eating and exercise regimen, it's okay. Just make sure you don't do it two days in a row.

Choose Fun Activities

Getting plenty of exercise is usually pretty simple on vacation. Take, for example, that you’re going to spend a week at the beach. You can easily integrate exercise into your vacation by walking or jogging on the beach for 45-minutes a day. Other great forms of exercise to enjoy while on vacation are rock climbing, swimming, and kayaking.

Order Nutrient Rich Foods

It is pretty common for restaurants to have a healthy section on the menu. And while it's perfectly okay to order from another section of the menu, you should do your best to eat healthy as much as possible while on vacation. Do a little research before you go to see which nutrient-rich foods they may have in the location you are visiting so you can try something that you may not get to try back home!

Avoid Excessive Alcohol

Consuming alcoholic beverages on your vacation is a quick way to add to your daily calorie intake. Try to limit yourself to low calorie and low sugar drinks as much as possible during your vacation.

Bring Your Supplements With You

Adding supplements to your diet on vacation is a great way to increase your energy levels and fully enjoy your time away from home. Always pack these in your checked back if you’re flying on an airplane as they may not be allowed onboard a plane.
