Games That Get You Moving

Whether you’re with a group of friends or need to get your family moving, games are a great way to make exercise more fun. How many of us are more interested in playing a game rather than going to the gym? Whether you love going to the gym or not, playing games that get you moving is a fun way to spend time with friends and family while getting some exercise as well. Here are some games that we suggest for adding extra activity in your day:

  • Charades. A fun game for young and old alike, Charades is great for getting you moving. Make it extra active by doing themed rounds that include sports, actions, Olympics, things you do at the gym, etc.

  • Twister. One of the classic physical activity games, Twister can be quite challenging. Stat slow and easy before working your way up to challenging games. Take care to not over-do it!

  • Volleyball. Whether you have a net or access to a volleyball court to play an actual game of volleyball, hitting a volleyball around with friends and family is a great activity. Make it even more fun by doing a group warm-up and seeing who can keep the ball in the air the longest!

  • Crab Race. Are you ready for a real workout? Crab races are fun and work your whole body. Set up a short racing area, inside or outside with clear starting and finishing points. Do a fun warm-up first to get everyone ready to race!

  • Badminton. This game is easy to set up (and take down) in any yard or park and is a fun way to get moving. If you aren’t keen on playing a full game of Badminton, set up teams of two and play “catch” by seeing which team can keep the birdie in the air the longest!

  • Treasure Hunt. There are a lot of different ways to play out a Treasure Hunt, so be creative with this one. You can have a rousing game in your home, in a park, or around your whole neighborhood to really get everyone moving.

Whenever you next have people over, or your kids have friends over, make a point to do an active game instead of watching a movie or sitting down for a board game. Making room for more activity in your life is a great way to make exercise more enjoyable and second nature.
