Physical activity, no matter where you do it, plays a vital role in any fitness plan. The gym is a great place to get active, especially when the weather is less than optimal, but don’t forget the benefits of outdoor activity! On any given day, the outside world can be your fitness playground. Let’s take a look at the benefits of outdoor fitness!

  1. Enjoy the Scenery

If nothing else, the scenery is simply one thing that the gym can not replace. Getting out and seeing the sights around your neighborhood is a much more enjoyable way to get active than staring at a wall. If the weather is nice, skip the treadmill and opt for a jog around a local lake, or go on a nature hike! Even something like a game of tennis can be more enjoyable with some fresh outdoor air!

  1. Use It to Multitask

Have a few errands to run? Try running your errands—literally! If you have a few places you need to go that are within a mile or so of each other, park the car centrally and use your legs to get you where you need to go! You can accomplish everything you need to get done while also squeezing in some physical activity.

  1. Exercise Different Muscles

Exercising at the gym is highly effective, however working out outdoors forces you to use muscles that may not get used in your gym routine. For example, running outside will use different leg muscles when going downhill. Even with treadmill declines, you can’t replicate this accurately. The same goes for cyclists who use momentum and different movements to navigate hills. This is why you’ll often feel more sore after outdoor exercise.

  1. Different Conditions

The average gym maintains a 68-degree temperature no matter what the outside weather conditions may be. While it’s convenient to know what to expect each time you head to the gym, it’s beneficial to train in a variety of conditions. Many runners find that they can run further on the treadmill than they can outside. This is because running outside brings in the variable of wind resistance, terrain, and temperature. Give yourself a variety of training conditions to see a real improvement in your fitness!

  1. Soak Up the Sun

Let’s be honest. Getting out and enjoying the warmth of the sun is one of life’s simple pleasures. Getting out and enjoying the sun is beneficial for your mental and emotional health. Sunlight boosts hormones in your body that make you feel happier! It also provides the body with valuable vitamin D, which comes with a wide range of benefits including a lower rate of heart disease. For a natural energy boost, get out and move in the sunlight!

Although physical activity is beneficial no matter how you do it, there are many benefits to taking your fitness outside! As the seasons start to change, we encourage you to find time to get active outdoors. In addition to moderate exercise and a reduced-calorie diet, consider adding LOWAT® to your daily routine! LOWAT is a patent-pending weight management ingredient that has been clinically studied to support a healthy weight loss. LOWAT has been studied in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled research to support loss of body weight 2x better than placebo after eight weeks.
