Do you find yourself craving a little something before you head to bed at night? While you might think a bedtime snack is off-limits when you’re watching what you eat, there are plenty of healthy snacks to satisfy your cravings! Here are some of our favorite nutritious snacks that taste indulgent but won’t leave you feeling weighed-down.

Dark chocolate.

While you might associate chocolate with being decadent, or an unhealthy splurge, it can be a surprisingly nutritious treat. For a bedtime snack that will satisfy your sweet tooth, a few pieces of dark chocolate can hit the spot. Look for a high-quality bar of dark chocolate, which is flavorful but won’t have as much added sugar as an average milk chocolate bar. Enjoy an ounce in the evening, and take the time to savor each bite.

Frozen fruit.

Frozen fruit is the perfect bedtime snack, especially on a hot summer night. There are lots of different fruits that freeze well, including strawberries, blueberries, peaches, grapes, and bananas. You can even try blending your favorite frozen fruits with some yogurt for a creamy frozen yogurt treat. It’s the perfect way to enjoy a rich frozen treat without a lot of calories and sugar.

Nuts, seeds, or beans.

For anyone who enjoys snacks that are more on the salty or savory side, nuts and seeds are the perfect healthy stand-in. Try making homemade roasted nuts by adding just a little bit of olive oil and your favorite seasonings, then baking them in the oven. Beans, such as chickpeas, are another great roasted snack. They can be made savory by adding some rich herbs, spicy with curry or chili powder, or sweet with honey and cinnamon.

Vegetable chips.

Vegetable chips are another great salty snack that you can make at home. Instead of sitting back with a bag of potato chips, try making homemade chips. Sweet potatoes, carrots, beets, and kale taste delicious when baked. Experiment with a few different vegetables until you find your favorites. Just like making homemade roasted nuts or beans, you can season your chips to taste sweet, savory, or spicy.

The next time you’re feeling a little hungry before bedtime, reach for one of these healthier options. A light snack before bed can help you sleep soundly, so you don’t wake up hungry in the middle of the night and feel tempted to overindulge. Reasonable portions of snacks that are good for you can make it easier for you to stick to a healthy diet. If your healthy diet is part of a weight loss plan, a supplement such as LOWAT® can provide some additional support. LOWAT® has been studied in randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind research to support healthy weight loss, with significant weight loss seen at week eight.
