It’s okay to indulge a little bit during the holiday season, it’s even better if you can indulge in healthy holiday treats. Here are a few recipes that satisfy that sweet craving without throwing you off your healthy lifestyle.
- 18 strawberries
- 2 cups (12 oz) almond bark
- ½ cup (2-3 oz) semisweet chocolate
Melt almond bark in a double boiler, or slowly in the microwave - do not overcook or it will harden. Wash strawberries and dip them into almond bark until sufficiently covered, then place on wax paper. Once all strawberries have been dipped and placed on wax paper, melt semisweet chocolate and use a spoon to drizzle over all the strawberries. Let cool until chocolate has hardened and keep refrigerated until serving time. These are beautiful and delicious healthy holiday treats!
Healthy Holiday Treats: Frozen Yogurt Bars
- 2 cups lowfat vanilla yogurt
- 1.5 ounce (½ packet) of your favorite Jello flavor
Crushed candy canes (optional)
Grease muffin tin or Christmas-shaped tins. Mix yogurt, jello and crushed candy canes together. Pour mixture into shaped tins and let freeze until hardened. Pop out of tins for a delicious ice cream treat! Healthy holiday treats like this one are great because you can add your own personal flavor twist by switching out jello flavors or adding little candies or sprinkles to the frozen yogurt bar mix.
Healthy Holiday Treats: Sweet Cinnamon Almonds
- 1 pound raw almonds
- 1 egg white
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- ¼ cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Pinch of nutmeg
Beat egg white and vanilla until fluffy. Combine sugars, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg in separate bowl, then add to egg white mixture and stir. Mix almonds and sugar mixture until almonds are coated. Spread almonds out on a cookie sheet in a single layer and bake at 225 degrees for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
