Healthy_Treats_for_the_4th_of_July.jpghe holidays are a tough time for everyone when it comes to eating well and treating your body with nutritious and delicious foods. This Fourth of July, focus on yourself and your well-being and treat yourself to healthy yet indulgent desserts. We have three healthy dessert options that everyone will love and a sweet July 4th themed “mocktail” for you to enjoy.

Patriotic Parfait

This is the day for red, white, and blue desserts! Our first dessert idea is a Patriotic Parfait. It has berries, yogurt for protein and granola for fiber!

½ cup blueberries

½ cup strawberries

½ cup raspberries

½ cup greek yogurt

¼ granola

1 tbsp shredded coconut

First, slice the strawberries into halves or fourths, whichever you prefer. Everyone knows how a parfait works; the presentation is in the layers. The choice is up to you if you want to mix the berry varieties together and then layer with the yogurt or if you want to choose different berries to have in each separate layer! Put berries on the bottom layer, then yogurt, then berries, then yogurt, then berries, then finish the yogurt with a dollop on top. Sprinkle the granola on the dollop of yogurt and then add the shredded coconut as a lovely, flavorful garnish.

Firework Fruit Salad

Everyone loves a fruit salad. With the mint garnish on this one, it goes from plain fruit salad to a delicious side dish or dessert option.

4 cups chopped watermelon

6 cups strawberries, chopped

8 oz raspberries

8 oz blueberries

¼  cup packed mint, chopped

3 limes, juiced

3 tbsp powdered sugar

Add all fruits and mint in a large bowl. Mix them up! Stir the lime juice and powdered sugar in a small bowl. Pour the lime and sugar mixture over the mix of berries and gently toss with a spatula to ensure that the mixture is spread over all the berries. Leave the large bowl in the fridge for at least 15 minutes (or until serving time). Then serve immediately.

USA Mocktail

1 bottle sparkling grape juice

¼ cup blueberries, frozen

¼ cup raspberries, frozen

This is easiest, yet cutest mocktail beverage to make on the 4th of July. Simply pour a half glass of sparkling grape juice into your wine glasses and garnish with frozen berries. It will keep your drink chilled and add flair to your party drink.
