Oatmeal is a great breakfast that can hold you over for hours. The issue is, much of the  flavored oatmeal that you buy at the store is loaded with extra sugar and artificial ingredients. We encourage you to opt for the plain oats and mix in a few wholesome ingredients at home. Here are a few of our favorite ways to jazz up your oatmeal!

And with 7g grams of fiber, your oatmeal will hold you over even longer than usual. Drop a few blueberries into the mix next time you are craving a mildly sweet oatmeal.

  • Chia Seeds

Chia seeds pack quite a nutritional punch! Nutrients included are a hearty load of fiber, omega-3s, protein, calcium, magnesium and many others! They are a great way to add nutrition without altering the taste much at all. Mix in an ounce and you will reap the benefits all day.

  • Bake Some Bars

Give yourself a nutritious on-the-go breakfast by baking a batch of delicious oatmeal bars. There are many healthy oatmeal bar recipes out there, but make sure you are trying one that uses healthy ingredients without adding sugar. Once they’re made, divide them into individual servings and wrap them in plastic or foil for an easy on-the-go breakfast!

  • Protein Powder

If you typically whip up a protein shake in the morning, try mixing your protein powder into a bowl of oatmeal to give your taste buds some variety! You can add your protein powder in addition to any of the suggestions above as well!

Breakfast is not only one of the first decisions you’ll make in the morning, but it’s also one of the most important decisions you’ll make all day! How you start the morning will set the course for the rest of the day. Oatmeal, especially with one of the variations we mentioned above, is a great way to kick off your morning.
