Sleep Tips For Weight Management

Living a healthy, balanced life is something we all strive for. In that pursuit, we often forget how important good sleep habits are for our health. Here we have seven sleep tips to help you on the path to a healthier you:

  1. Create a sleep schedule. While one of the most important sleep tips, this is also the hardest to establish and maintain. Start keeping track of when you feel the most vibrant and awake, noting the amount of sleep you are getting as well. If you can narrow down a time you can go to sleep and wake up every day, you can build the rest of your day accordingly and sleep your way to a healthier you.

  1. Develop bedtime rituals. In addition to creating a sleep schedule, it is also important to develop bedtime rituals. Bedtime rituals are not just for young children but are effective for people of all ages. What do you like to do in the evenings? Do you go out with your friends often? Do you watch TV shows regularly? Do you exercise in the evenings or have other regular evening activities? Develop bedtime rituals that fit into your schedule but also relax you and prepare you for a good night’s sleep.

  1. Keep naps short. Sometimes a short nap is the perfect solution to ramp up your energy for the rest of the day, but make sure it really is short. Naps lasting longer than 30 minutes tend to disrupt your sleep schedule, making sleeping through the night more difficult.

  1. Avoid alcohol and caffeine before bed. Although everyone reacts differently to both alcohol and caffeine, it is best to avoid these items at least one hour before bed. You may not directly feel the effects of each as you near bedtime, but they will certainly disrupt your sleep schedule.

  1. Avoid being overly full or hungry when going to bed. Your body is restoring itself during sleep, so it is best to avoid both extremes. Plan any large meals at least 2 hours before bedtime, keeping in mind not to leave yourself hungry either. Also, note that eating too much before bed can cause weight gain. For additional help with weight management plus other health benefits, consider 7-Keto®, a well-studied metabolite that has been shown to increase weight loss and improve metabolic rate.

  1. Stay active. Physical activity gets your metabolism up while improving circulation and mood. Exerting more energy during the day makes sleep a truly restorative time. Discover when the best time to exercise is for you, but don’t let it be at the expense of sleep.

  1. Drink non-caffeinated, herbal teas. At the end of the day, a hot cup of tea is the best sleep tip. Try the soothing flavor of peppermint tea or the light, comforting flavor of chamomile tea.
